Understanding and Reaching your Target Audience is the key to success for any entity. Businesses get their customers from reaching out to these people who fit certain conditions.
1) Learn from Others
Follow other business in your industry. See what they do and who they target to get their customers. For example, a restaurant can find what Dessert, people are trying elsewhere to add that item to their menu to increase sales.
2) Listen to your Target Audience
People Talk, good or bad about the products or services they try. Listen to them. It is easier today through social media. If you find a problem similar to your product, try addressing the issue.
There is a story that General Motors took a complaint about its Pontiac car. The car did not start when the customer bought vanilla ice cream but had no problem with other flavors. They listened to the problem and found it was due to vapor lock. Which occurred because of time difference in buying the different flavors of ice cream. So, it’s always necessary to listen to your target audience no matter how different they are.
3) Experiment
We can never understand our target audience completely. Experimenting and discovering out hidden potential is great way to reach them. Coming back to the same example. A restaurant can experiment new dessert and it might sell well with people who usually don’t order them.
